Jean Cowell, P.E., S.E. Principal
Jean received a B.A. in physics from Grinnell College in
1984, a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Washington University in 1986 and
an M.S. in Structural Engineering from Washington University in 1990. Her
honors included membership in Tau Beta Pi, Civil Engineering Honor Society
and Mortar Board. She has more than fifteen years of experience in
structural engineering.
Her experience includes structural engineering design of new
structures, evaluation of existing structures, forensic engineering and
expert witness testimony. She has designed commercial structures in the
high seismic regions of California and the hurricane ocean line of South
Florida and is familiar with the BOCA, UBC, Southern and South Florida
building codes. She has previous professional experience at McDonnell
Douglas and Lapin-Ellis and Associates. In addition to her engineering
responsibilities, Jean oversees the management of Cowell Engineering.
Jean is a member of the Department of Civil Engineering External
Advisory Board, Washington University in St. Louis. She also serves on the
ACEC Missouri Division of Design and Construction Liaison Committee. For
10 years Jean served as an affiliate faculty member at Washington
University, St. Louis where she taught structural design. She is the
immediate past chairperson of the Forest Park Advisory Board where she
served for four years. The board is overseeing the implementation of the
Forest Park Master Plan.
Jean is a registered Professional Engineer in Alabama, Michigan, Missouri,
Nebraska, New York, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina and North Dakota and
a registered Structural Engineer in Arizona, District of Columbia, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Wyoming and
Illinois.
